Editorial Policy

Last updated: October 20, 2025

This Editorial Policy explains how bmtctimings.in creates, reviews and maintains content. We are committed to accuracy, transparency and serving our readers’ best interests.

1. Our Editorial Mission

bmtctimings.in aims to be the most accurate, comprehensive and user-friendly source of information about BMTC bus routes in Bengaluru. Our content is created for the benefit of commuters — not advertisers, not BMTC and not any third party.

2. Content Creation Process

Every route page and guide on bmtctimings.in follows this process:

  1. Data collection — We gather route information from the official BMTC website, Namma BMTC app, the open BMTC GTFS dataset and on-ground observation.
  2. Drafting — Our writers draft the content in a consistent format (overview, stops, timings, fares, tips, FAQs).
  3. Fact-checking — Editors verify route numbers, stop names, first/last bus timings and fare estimates against at least 2 sources.
  4. Review — Senior editors review for clarity, accuracy and completeness.
  5. Publication — The page is published with a clear “last updated” date.
  6. Periodic review — Every page is reviewed at least once every 12 months for accuracy.

3. Sources of Information

We rely on the following primary sources for our content:

  • Official BMTC website — mybmtc.karnataka.gov.in (for fares, policies, official announcements)
  • Namma BMTC app — for live tracking, route search and timings
  • BMTC open transit dataset — community-maintained GTFS feed under Open Database License
  • Google Maps transit layer — for stop locations and route paths
  • On-ground observation — our team rides BMTC buses regularly to verify information
  • Reader submissions — corrections and updates from commuters (verified before publication)

4. Editorial Independence

Our content is independent of advertiser influence. Advertisers cannot:

  • Pay to change our route information or ratings
  • Remove or suppress negative information about a service
  • Have us publish false or misleading content
  • Receive preferential treatment in our content (except clearly-labelled sponsored posts)

See our Advertising Disclosure for full details.

5. Accuracy and Corrections

We strive for 100% accuracy, but bus information changes frequently. If you spot an error:

  1. Email corrections@bmtctimings.in with the page URL and the error
  2. Our editors verify the correction against authoritative sources
  3. If confirmed, we update the page within 2-5 business days
  4. Significant corrections are noted at the bottom of the affected page

6. Content Updates

BMTC bus routes, timings and fares can change without notice. We update our content based on:

  • Major BMTC announcements — fare revisions, new routes, route cancellations (updated within 7 days)
  • Schedule refreshes — full review of all routes every 6 months
  • Reader feedback — corrections and updates from commuters (verified and published within 2-5 days)
  • Annual content review — every page is reviewed at least once every 12 months

7. Author and Reviewer Information

bmtctimings.in content is created by a team of Bangalore-based writers and editors who are daily BMTC commuters. For privacy reasons, we publish content under a team byline rather than individual author names. If you need to verify authorship or contact a specific writer, email hello@bmtctimings.in.

8. Conflict of Interest

Our team members do not have financial interests in any bus operator, transport authority or competing transit information service. If a team member has a personal relationship with a BMTC employee or official, they do not write about topics that could be influenced by that relationship.

9. Sponsored Content Standards

Sponsored content on bmtctimings.in must:

  • Be clearly labelled as “Sponsored” or “Advertisement” at the top
  • Be relevant to Bangalore commuters
  • Meet our regular editorial standards for clarity and accuracy
  • Not make false or misleading claims
  • Disclose the sponsor prominently

See our Advertising Disclosure for full details.

10. Reader Engagement

We welcome reader engagement through:

  • Comments — Civil, on-topic comments are encouraged. Spam, abuse and off-topic comments are removed.
  • Corrections — Email corrections@bmtctimings.in to report any error
  • Suggestions — Email hello@bmtctimings.in with route suggestions, feature requests or feedback
  • Social media — Reach us on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Telegram

11. Use of AI Tools

bmtctimings.in uses AI tools (such as large language models) to assist with drafting, formatting and proofreading content. However, every page is reviewed, fact-checked and edited by a human editor before publication. AI tools do not make editorial decisions and cannot publish content autonomously.

12. Content Licensing

All original content on bmtctimings.in is © bmtctimings.in and may not be reproduced in bulk without prior written permission. Brief quotations (up to 50 words) with a clear attribution and link back to the original page are permitted.

Bus route data (timings, stops, fares) is factual information and not subject to copyright. However, our presentation, formatting, commentary and analysis are protected by copyright.
