Bangalore’s bus network is run by BMTC and covers every corner of the city with more than 4,400 numbered routes. From Kempegowda Bus Station (Majestic) at the heart of the city to far-flung suburbs like Anekal, Devanahalli, Bannerughatta and Nelamangala, BMTC buses are the cheapest and most extensive form of public transport in Bengaluru. This directory explains the main route categories, colour-coded bus classes and how to find any route number quickly.
BMTC Route Numbering System
BMTC route codes follow simple conventions. Numeric codes are ordinary city buses. G-prefixed are Big-10 routes. V-prefixed are Vayu Vajra Volvo AC routes. MF-prefixed routes are Metro Feeder services. D-prefixed are depot-link services. KIA and BIAS codes are airport shuttles.
Major Route Categories
- Big-10 Routes (G-series): 12 trunk corridors, blue buses, frequent service.
- Vayu Vajra (V-series): red Volvo AC buses, premium fare.
- Metro Feeder (MF-series): last-mile connectivity to metro stations.
- Ordinary Routes (numeric): the bulk of the network, lowest fare.
- Airport Services (KIA / BIAS): 24/7 Volvo to Kempegowda International Airport.
